How Does Future of Work Work?

What can a leading HR SaaS provider do to leverage the power of emerging technology to level up its game? As the design lead, I was tasked to help a client reimagine the future of HR services, mapping out their corporate vision. Unlike most UX projects, this time, my team kept our mind open like the sky and focused on futuristic use cases and design patterns that come with it.

TLDR - Here is a cool design coming out of all the hard work

The full story begins… imagine a world where

  • Workforce is shifting from traditional office settings to flexible, on-demand

  • Workers care more about their skill improvements and well-being

  • Non-traditional jobs emerging every day

To find out how a workforce management company can carve its path to the future of work, I first set out to find the current pain points of their end users, the employees.

However, the current state is

Over 13 interviews were conducted to varies workers (full-time, part-time, gig) to understand how HR systems took part of their day to day work and how they felt about them. The core pain points revolves around:

  • Trouble finding the most fitting job / gig

  • Trouble adjusting shifts and balancing between employer and personal needs

  • Being on top of career progression with the right review / learning experiences

To enable this vision, the future of work need

  • Ubiquitous employee profile

  • Flexible/shift work taking over long term employment

  • Maximized value

To bridge the macro shifts and the needs, we tested these ideas…

With low fidelity concept cards.

And the top use cases can be visualized as

A3 general categories and 11

However, we need to rethink the future’s personal computing

Attempting a completely new interface pattern that takes spacial view into consideration. Inspired by Apple’s Vision OS, the HR dashboard’s UI was made into transparent style, accompanying by the UI modules from worker’s perspective.

Placing such use cases in a real-life scenario

To get the board onboarded (no pun intended), we need to put the concept in real-life.

Imagining how spacial computing apply to workforce management
